Happy Mid-autumn Day

It is on August 15th in lunar calendar, exactly the middle of three months in the season of Autumn, so it is called Mid-autumn Day. In some places in China, people choose August 16th as the Mid-autumn day.

Mid-autumn Day dates back to the beginning years of Tang Dynasty. It prevailed in Song Dynasty. When time comes to Ming Dynasty, it has become one of the main festivals in China, as important as the New Year's Day. Influenced by Chinese culture, people of some countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia have taken Mid-autumn festival at public festival too, especially local Chinese and overseas Chinese. Mid-autumn festival has been listed as National Holiday in China since 2008. On 20th, May 2006, the China State Council listed Mid-autumn Festival into the first list of national intangible cultural heritages.

Mid-autumn festival has traditional customs like sacrifice of the moon, watching and admiring the full moon, salutation to the moon, eating moon cakes, enjoying sweet-scented osmanthus, drinking wine fermented with osmanthus flowers and so on. They have been passed down continuously from generation to generation. In this festival, the round moon symbolizes the reunion of the whole family. On this day, people will pray for harvest and happiness. Those who cannot get together with his family members today will watch the moon and miss them and his hometown.
